How to Get Better iPhone Reception – and Less Dropped Calls

For those lucky enough (like US citizens) to have their hands on an iPhone 4 already, there has been complaints about reception issues.

Why?

Well according to Apple, it’s not a problem with the iPhone 4, it’s just the way you’re holding your iPhone. Yeh, you heard right.

The aluminium outer rim on the iPhone 4 features, which was to act as an antenna to increase the iPhone’s reception. However, by holding it in your left hand, which your palm touching the bottom left hand corner, users are experiencing loss of signal.

How to fix it?

Slip on an iPhone cover (to break skin contact) or “adjust the way you hold your phone”.

If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases.” Apple official statement

Beware of thiefs and frauds when buying your new iPhone

thief Beware Insurance Scam: iPhones & Smartphones

Reportedly an insurance scam (new or old?) relates to people buying iPhones online, or from newspaper adverts etc.

Once bought and paid for, the seller then reports it lost or stolen and the iPhone / mobile phone is blocked (then claimed on insurance and replaced).

Not sure how prevalent this may be, but it again raises the issue of being vigilant and not leaving yourself open to this kind of fraud.

Don’t buy second hand items without first checking if the IMEI is blocked, without written receipt, without taking sellers proof of name/address from a bill etc. Meet with the seller in person wherever possible.

These are all facts you need to witness firsthand, not just believe them over the phone etc.

All commonsence practices I’d have thought, but then, I trust no-one icon wink Beware Insurance Scam: iPhones & Smartphones
