Apple iPhone 4 reviews

“Who has reviewed the Apple iPhone 4?”
At last, the iPhone 4 is coming to Australia. Due to arrive late July.
Some Apple fans are holding their breathe, literally. Whilst the big awful Telcos are already devising how they can suck you in…
BUT – before you mortgage your house, or promise your first born child for an Apple iPhone 4, check out reviews from iLounge, CNET, TechRadar and Gizmodo below. (Also, do your research on the iPhone reception issues being experienced – and how to fix the reception problems).
iLounge iPhone 4 Review
First is the iLounge iPhone 4 Review
Pros: … packing the most powerful iPhone hardware in history into the smallest and sleekest enclosure … camera performance outstanding … new 960×640 display equals past iPhones in brightness and off-angle viewability while surpassing them by a factor of four in detail … Improved speaker performance across the board … Markedly faster data performance under some conditions.
Of course, they also consider it to have “Cons” so you should check out the very indepth review (all 9 pages perhaps).
CNET iPhone 4 Review
Apart from iLounge, CNET are usually the first site I turn to for information and gadget reviews. You find out a lot of information, unbiased opinion, good specs info and images, plus who’s selling them, albeit only paid retailer campaigns.
Their thoughts in summary (mine in brackets)
Good:
- Offers enhanced performance (faster processor onboard)
- A new display (amazing new retina display technology)
- An improved design (are they referring to the shape? the problematic band antenna?)
- Adds a tonne of sorely needed features, both by itself and through the iOS 4 update
Bad:
- Multitasking entails some trade-offs (ie battery)
- Home screen folders are limited to 12 apps (so you can only partially organise and categorise your apps)
- AT&T reception continues to be spotty (would be nice if we had local carriers feedback, but of course, we Aussies must wait…)
TechRadar.com iPhone 4 Review
TechRadar give the iPhone 4 a whopping 4.5 out of 5 stars. Not bad!
Their review is also very extensive. Hey, these guys do add pages to increase their advertise space. They’re not completely silly!
Overall, the design might not impress some people the first time they pick up the phone – a number of people we showed the phone to grimaced a little bit the first time they handled it. It’s a sharp and weighty-feeling phone, make no mistake – and it doesn’t sit as comfortably in the hand as well as other iPhones of the past have.
But it feels premium, and at up to £600, it had better – that’s a lot to pay when you consider you could get a 42-inch 1080p LCD for £200 less these days.
Gizmodo iPhone 4 Review
Saved the best ’til last!
This iPhone 4 review would have to be my favourite review so far. I love the way Jason Chen of Gizmodo personalises his experience, shares his unconditional love for the iPhone 4 (ie knowing its flaws). Perhaps my favourite part is his very astute observation: “The iPhone 4 is not as drop resistant as a rabbit.”
And c’mon, who hasn’t pulled the iPhone out of their pocket, only to realise there was nothing that you needed to look at or check!
Habits are easily formed but hard to break…
