Get cool snow reports without leaving your warm resort bed

(updated after feedback from customer)

iPhone apps for skiing & snowboard

Winter is fast approaching!
That means skiers and snowboarders are starting to get antsy about when they can hit the powder.

If you’re planning a trip to the snow, here are some iTunes apps for your iPhone or iPod touch that can help.

Find out all you need to know whilst driving to the snowfields, or before lifting your weary head out of your warm resort bed after yesterday’s ‘Après-ski’.

You can:

  • Receive hourly ski and snowboard reports
  • Check ski conditions for driving to/from resorts and fields
  • Find out base depth and surface conditions
  • Use trail maps and GPS
  • Check lift information; and more

iPhone Apps suggestions

Check out the iTunes store for these iPhone apps:

If you’re new to the snow, check out this cool WikiSki for heaps of information, as well as learning the necessary Ski Jargon before going (it’s a whole different language).

If you’re taking your iPhone on the slopes, make sure you’ve got it well protected: iPhone covers & protectors.

Beware of thiefs and frauds when buying your new iPhone

moz screenshot 2 Beware Insurance Scam: iPhones & Smartphones

thief Beware Insurance Scam: iPhones & Smartphones

Reportedly an insurance scam (new or old?) relates to people buying iPhones online, or from newspaper adverts etc.

Once bought and paid for, the seller then reports it lost or stolen and the iPhone / mobile phone is blocked (then claimed on insurance and replaced).

Not sure how prevalent this may be, but it again raises the issue of being vigilant and not leaving yourself open to this kind of fraud.

Don’t buy second hand items without first checking if the IMEI is blocked, without written receipt, without taking sellers proof of name/address from a bill etc. Meet with the seller in person wherever possible.

These are all facts you need to witness firsthand, not just believe them over the phone etc.

All commonsence practices I’d have thought, but then, I trust no-one ;)
